Rarity and Intense Color – A Unique Tarantula from Mexico
Brachypelma klaasi, originating from the limited, dry areas of western Mexico, is one of the rarer and highly valued species within the Brachypelma genus. Known as the Mexican Orange-knee Tarantula, it stands out with its vivid, orange legs and dark body, making it an exceptionally striking addition to any collection. This species will be appreciated by both experienced and beginner keepers looking for a unique and beautiful tarantula.

Natural Habitat and Geographical Origin
B. klaasi is endemic to the dry forests and scrublands of the Mexican state of Colima. Like other terrestrial tarantulas from this region, it lives a ground-dwelling life, digging extensive burrow systems or occupying existing shelters. It adapts to varying climatic conditions, including distinct dry and rainy seasons.
Morphology and Size
Adult Brachypelma klaasi specimens reach a leg span of approximately 13-15 cm (5-6 inches). Their body is dark brown or black, with the exception of the legs, which are adorned with intense, bright orange hairs. This vibrant color is particularly noticeable on the femoral and tibial segments, giving the spider a very distinctive and attractive appearance. Young spiders are initially less intensely colored, but with each molt, their colors become more saturated.
Behavior and Temperament
B. klaasi is a species with a generally calm and docile temperament, typical of the Brachypelma genus. It is a spider that rarely shows aggression, preferring to flee or kick urticating hairs from its abdomen when threatened. These hairs, although causing irritation and itching, are not dangerous to humans. Bites are very rare, and their venom is mild, comparable to a bee sting.

Feeding Habits
In nature, the diet of B. klaasi mainly consists of insects and other small invertebrates. In home husbandry, they should be fed live feeder insects such as crickets, roaches, or locusts. The size of the food should be adjusted to the size of the spider. Feeding once a week or once every two weeks is usually sufficient for adults. It is important not to leave uneaten food in the terrarium for extended periods.
Lifespan
Female Brachypelma klaasi are long-lived and can live from 20 to 25 years under proper husbandry conditions. Males have a much shorter lifespan, typically 4 to 6 years.

Husbandry Requirements
Terrarium: For an adult spider, a terrarium of approximately 30x20x20 cm will be suitable.
Substrate: Provide at least 10-15 cm of deep dry substrate (e.g., coconut fiber), with a slightly moist area to maintain optimal humidity.
Temperature: The optimal temperature is 24-28°C.
Humidity: Maintain moderate humidity at 60-70%. Good ventilation is crucial to prevent mold growth.
Hiding Place: Provide the spider with a solid hiding spot (e.g., a piece of bark, half a coconut) where it can retreat.
Water: A shallow water dish is essential and should be refilled regularly.
Suitable for Hobbyists
Brachypelma klaasi is an excellent choice for beginner and intermediate keepers looking for a species with exceptional beauty and a calm temperament. Its relatively easy care and resilience make it a satisfying addition to a collection, and its rarity adds to its prestige. However, it is important to be aware of its urticating hairs.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Yes, all species available in our offer come from verified sources and are safe for home breeding. We do not sell species with venom that is life-threatening to humans.

We use special, secure packaging that protects the animal during transport. Shipping is carried out according to the highest standards, so that the spider arrives in perfect condition.

Every spider needs an appropriate terrarium with proper substrate, a hide, water, and ventilation. In the product descriptions, you will find guidelines regarding the requirements of each species.

We do not recommend direct contact. Spiders are animals for observation, not for touching. For their safety and your comfort, it is best to limit yourself to admiring them in the terrarium.

Adult tarantulas usually only need to be fed once every 7–10 days; younger ones more often. Their diet consists of feeder insects such as crickets or cockroaches.

This is a normal phenomenon – especially during molting. Spiders may not eat for several weeks, or even months. The most important thing is that they have access to fresh water and peaceful conditions.
