Intense Red and Unique Beauty from Pacific Mexico
Brachypelma boehmei, a close relative of the famous B. hamorii, is another jewel among New World tarantulas, originating from western Mexico. Known as the Mexican Fireleg Tarantula, it stands out with its incredibly intense, bright orange-red legs, making it one of the most visually striking species in the entire Brachypelma family. It is an excellent choice for keepers who value vibrant colors and relatively calm behavior.
Natural Habitat and Geographical Origin
This species occurs in the dry tropical forests and bushy areas of the Mexican state of Oaxaca. Like other Brachypelma species, B. boehmei is terrestrial, digging burrows or utilizing natural shelters under rocks and tree roots. Its environment is characterized by dry and wet seasons, which influences its biology.

Morphology and Size
Brachypelma boehmei reaches a leg span of approximately 13-15 cm (5-6 inches). Its body is predominantly black, but its legs are its true adornment – entirely covered in dense, bright, orange-red hairs, giving the spider an almost fiery appearance. This intense color distinguishes it from B. hamorii, where the red is mainly limited to the "knees."
Behavior and Temperament
B. boehmei is typically a calm and docile species, similar to most tarantulas of the genus Brachypelma. It rarely shows aggression, but like other New World species, it possesses urticating hairs on its abdomen, which it can kick off when threatened. These hairs can cause itching and irritation, so caution is advised during any handling. Bites are rare, and their venom is mild and not a threat to human health.

Feeding Habits
In nature, their diet mainly consists of insects and other invertebrates. In captivity, it is recommended to feed them crickets, roaches, locusts, or other suitable feeder insects. The size of the food should be adjusted to the size of the spider. Adult specimens can be fed once a week or every two weeks.

Lifespan
Female Brachypelma boehmei are long-lived and can live from 20 to 25 years under appropriate captive conditions. Males, as is often the case with tarantulas, have a shorter lifespan, typically 4 to 6 years.

Husbandry Requirements
Terrarium: For an adult spider, a terrarium of approximately 30x20x20 cm will be suitable.
Substrate: A minimum of 10 cm deep substrate (e.g., coco fiber) should be provided to allow the spider to dig burrows. The substrate should be dry, with a slightly damp area.
Temperature: The optimal temperature is 24-28°C.
Humidity: Maintain moderate humidity at 60-70%. Good ventilation is important to prevent mold.
Hide: Be sure to provide the spider with a hide, such as a piece of bark or a ceramic cave.
Water: A shallow water dish is essential.
Suitable for Hobbyists
Brachypelma boehmei is a good choice for beginner to intermediate keepers who are looking for a striking and relatively easy-to-maintain species. Its spectacular coloration makes it one of the most desirable tarantulas for a collection, and its mild temperament adds to its appeal. However, it is important to remember about the urticating hairs.

Why Choose This Species?
If you want to add a true "star" with fiery colors and a calm disposition to your collection, the Mexican Fireleg Tarantula is an ideal choice. Its easy care and longevity will allow you to enjoy its beauty for many years.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Yes, all species available in our offer come from verified sources and are safe for home breeding. We do not sell species with venom that is life-threatening to humans.

We use special, secure packaging that protects the animal during transport. Shipping is carried out according to the highest standards, so that the spider arrives in perfect condition.

Every spider needs an appropriate terrarium with proper substrate, a hide, water, and ventilation. In the product descriptions, you will find guidelines regarding the requirements of each species.

We do not recommend direct contact. Spiders are animals for observation, not for touching. For their safety and your comfort, it is best to limit yourself to admiring them in the terrarium.

Adult tarantulas usually only need to be fed once every 7–10 days; younger ones more often. Their diet consists of feeder insects such as crickets or cockroaches.

This is a normal phenomenon – especially during molting. Spiders may not eat for several weeks, or even months. The most important thing is that they have access to fresh water and peaceful conditions.
