Genus: Acanthoscurria

Origin: Amazon basin in northern Brazil.

Habitat: Tropical rainforests and humid forests. It is a terrestrial species that tends to dig burrows, although it does not always build nests in captivity.

Diet: In nature, they feed on insects, crickets, cockroaches, mealworms, and sometimes small lizards or rodents. In captivity, they should be fed appropriately sized live insects. Juveniles should be fed weekly, and adults every 2-3 weeks.

Characteristics:
Size: Large tarantula species. Leg span is about 18-22 cm (7-8.5 inches).
Lifespan: Females can live 15-20 years or more, males 3-4 years.
Appearance: Has a dark brown or black body with distinct, shiny white stripes on its legs. The carapace can be grayish, and the abdomen covered with orange-red hairs. It is a fast-growing and striking species.
Temperament: Usually bold and voracious. They can be quite active during feeding. If threatened, they may kick urticating hairs, but rarely bite. Their venom is not medically significant, but bites can be painful.
Care: As a terrestrial species, it requires a deep substrate (10-15 cm). The substrate should be slightly moist, but not wet. Provide adequate ventilation and a water dish. Temperature should be 24-29°C (75-85°F), and humidity 60-80%.
